Chestnut Successfully Issues First Batch Of Improved Forest Management Credits
February 26, 2025
Chestnut Carbon, a developer of nature-based carbon removal projects, announced that it has successfully issued its first Improved Forest Management (IFM) carbon credits generated from the Forest Carbon Works membership program.
The transactions, in which more than 64,000 carbon removal credits were sold to various corporate buyers, including JPMorgan Chase, totalled $2.2 million.
To ensure the highest level of quality and integrity, these carbon removal credits were put through rigorous third-party audits and verified by Verra.
Commenting on this milestone, Chestnut CEO Ben Dell shared that the company is extremely proud to bring these IFM carbon removal credits to market, stating,“The high quality and integrity of our product offering is reflected in the premium pricing we’re receiving for our credits.”
The Forest Carbon Works membership program is a US-based initiative launched by Chestnut that opens a gateway for private forest owners to access carbon markets and unlock additional income streams.
By incentivizing forest protection through the generation of carbon removal credits, Chestnut contributes to lowered rates of timber activity and destruction of natural forests.
Currently, the Forest Carbon Works program partners with landowners across 36 US states, covering more than 150,000 acres of enrolled land as of February 2025.
As a carbon removal provider, Chestnut prides itself on offering the highest quality of IFM product on the market.
Their carbon credits are focused entirely on CO2 removal and don’t include avoidance methodologies, while simultaneously offering high additionality that helps protect at-risk US forests and unlocks economic opportunities for landowners.
Additionally, the IFM credits produced by Chesnut Carbon offer a longer carbon storage frame than other IFM options on the market, ensuring the CO2 is put away for more than 60 years, as opposed to the 40 years typically offered by other developers.
