Chestnut Carbon Expands Afforestation Project to Georgia

August 21, 2025

We’re happy to announce the expansion of our afforestation (ARR) footprint into Georgia—marking the eighth state where Chestnut has acquired land to support our high-quality carbon project development platform. With this addition, Chestnut now owns over 60,000 acres stretching from Texas to the Atlantic coast.

Our first Georgia project site is in Jeff Davis County, in the southeastern part of the state. The nearly 1,500-acre parcel was previously used for mixed row crops, with some areas already in natural timberland.

The majority of this land will be restored to native forestland. As with every Chestnut project, we’ll collaborate closely with local specialists to determine the ideal mix of biodiverse seedlings, tailored to the region’s unique soil, drainage, and native species. We’re excited to work with residents and local stakeholders in this new area to create a mutually beneficial plan for community land use.

Portions of the natural timberland will be enrolled in Chestnut’s Improved Forest Management (IFM) program, while others will be designated as recreational tracts across the property. We remain deeply committed to the long-term durability of our forest carbon projects. By applying best practices in forestry management, we proactively address risks such as fire, disease, and other environmental challenges.

Throughout the development period, we will monitor tree growth and carbon sequestration before issuing our first removal credits. Our patented MRV technology enables faster, more accurate measurement of carbon capture compared to traditional methods. Each measurement is verified against Gold Standard® criteria, ensuring our carbon credits are the highest quality available in the market today.
